I am happy to say its only a very very bad case of ear mites.The hard mass like feeling to it is more then likely a calcium deposit mixed with inflammation.
With any luck within a few days to a week it should start to look better.
I have a lot of cleaning to do now... need to wash the ferrets bedding and then freeze it for a few hours to a day to kill off the mites.
