Subject: [ferrethealth] insulinoma, pred, diazoxide...
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

As I understand it, one starts w/pred rather than diazoxide because
1)it's much cheaper 2)some ferrets don't respond to diazoxide.

However, the long-term effects of pred aren't so nice--it's a
catabolic steroid after all.

If your ferret is a good 1400 grams and otherwise healthy, partial
pancreatectomy is still really the best choice as far as keeping your
pet as healthy as possible for as long as possible.

only my opinion but I've kept ferrets on both meds, surgery and not,
and I feel surgery is really the way to go.
