I have a three to four year old ferret that came into my rescue with adrena=
l problems. A few days prior to his scheduled surgery, he started having pr=
oblems urinating. I took him to the after hours clinic and they had to put =
him under and express him. We came to the determination that emergency adre=
nal surgery was needed with the thought that the tumor must have been large=
enough to keep him from urinating. The surgery went well, he was recoverin=
g nicely up until three days ago. I looked in his cage and he was straining=
to urinate again. I took him in to the vet and they once again had to put =
him under and exoress him. They found that he has some type of plug that ke=
eps forming and it prevents him from going. Then, last night, I had to once=
again take him to the er vet because I couldn't help him to urinate. We ar=
e at a point where we don't know what to do. He is unable for the most part=
to urinate on his own. The one vet put him on baytril for two weeks and th=
e other vet at the emergency clinic put him on pred, thinking it could have=
something to do with the adrenal that was removed. With the exception of =
not being able to urinate on his own, he is doing great. I am being somewha=
t encouraged to put him down due to this problem, but I cannot see putting =
the ferret down due to being unable to urinate. There has to be a solution =
out there somewhere, we just haven't found it yet. Any ideas? Any input is=
welcome.
