HI
Can any one tell me where I can get good informatin on ferret liver
disease. Not cancer just liver disease. Our beloved ferret Snip I
have
been told probably has advance ending stage of liver disease. He has
been hospitlize 3 times since the first week of Dec.
His last time they took more test and found out he has a liver
disease. The vet does not believe it to be cancer.
For the past 12 days I have been giving him fluid injections under
the
skin 20cc amd he has been on Flagel and Amoxie. I have been force
feeding him 3 times a day. On his own he will eat chicken, turkey,
some snacks but very very little.
There has been No improvement. The only thing is he did seems
somewhat
stable with the fluid injections. Now I see a slowly downhill again.
His diaherra just will not clear up. So it seems that his body is not
prossessing the food correctly leaving him with very little nutrition.
I am just trying to understand what is going on with my little bundle
of love.
Snip is the first ferret we brought into our home and have been
hooked
ever since.
He is a blazed ferret and is so loving and trusting. Very easy going.
When I brought home a play mate for him I will NEVER forget his
reaction. I put little Princess down on the floor with Snip and he
jumped on her
like he had known her forever. He was so happy to see another ferret
and to have a play mate.
I will be calling the vet up again Monday to give her a up date on
Snips condition. Since he did not seem to respond to the meds it does
not look good at all for our little Snip. I say a pray for him
everyday.

After calling the vet Monday Snip is off from the meds. He is eating about
every 4 hours either baby food or A/D. He is still getting fluid injections of
20cc once a day.
I still have to force him to eat but he does take a few licks off my finger on
his own. He still has diaherra. My vet has him eating about 1/2 teasp. of
yogert 2 times a day. Pepto and Kaopetae did not help on his diaherria.
Some one mention that maybe he has IBD. At the first sign of him being
sick he did have green stools.
Also Snip was sick last March. To me it seems like the same thing only
worst this time.
My vet is really trying to help little Snip out but she said she does not
know what else she can do. She even had me go to another vet that
sees more ferrets then she does. The second vet is the one that said he
has a liver disease. They took x-rays and it shows a small liver.
Can anyone help? I do have to say the the fluid injections are doing the
best for him. He seems to perk up a bit after them. Today he even took a
few steps toward another ferret in play. Just a few steps but Snip has not
played with another ferret in a very long time. Those few steps were
precious
thank you everyone
